IIT Madras scientists develop ‘MOUSHIK’ chip for IoT devices – Latest News

The Indian Institute of Technological innovation (IIT) Madras said its researchers have successfully designed ‘MOUSHIK‘, an indigenously-manufactured microprocessor for the World-wide-web of things (IoT) units.

In accordance to the institute, ‘MOUSHIK’ is a processor cum technique on chip’ that can cater to the speedily-escalating IoT products, an integral element of smart metropolitan areas of a digital India.

It was conceptualised, designed and formulated at the Pratap Subrahmanyam Centre for Electronic Intelligence and Protected Hardware Architecture (PS-CDISHA) of the Increase Group, Division of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Madras.

“There are 3 techniques associated in the creating of a microprocessor, specifically style, fabrication and article-silicon boot-up,” Kamakoti Veezhinathan, Reconfigurable Clever Devices Engineering (Increase) Team, IIT Madras, mentioned in a statement.

“All 3 processes for ‘MOUSHIK’ were being undertaken in India, demonstrating an aAtmanirbhar’ ecosystem in electronic design and style productisation,” Veezhinathan added.

The effect of the fully-indigenous improvement approach is the showcasing of an Indian ecosystem for designing, creating and fabricating conclude-to-close units within just the place, top to self-sufficiency.

In accordance to the scientists, the style and design of the microprocessor, motherboard printed circuit board layout, assembly and put up-silicon boot-up had been completed at the campus.

The field purposes of ‘MOUSHIK’ include smart cards including credit score playing cards, ID cards, debit cards, travel cards for metros and driving licenses, electronic voting equipment (EVMs) and business office management methods which includes attendance, surveillance cameras and safe and sound locks.

It also includes personalised wellbeing administration methods, client electronics like but not limited to washing devices and water pump checking devices.

The undertaking was funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information and facts Technologies.
