Honor Launches MagicOS 8.0 Based on Android 14 With AI Integrations and MagicLM

Honor announced the launch of MagicOS 8.0, its newest custom Android operating skin based on Android 14. This new version includes AI integrations and MagicLM, the company’s proprietary on-device large language model. Some of the most exciting features include an intent-based user interface, as well as upgraded connectivity, performance, privacy, and security features. The upgrade rollout plan shared by the company reveals that smartphones including the Honor Magic 5 series and Magic 4 series will receive the update to MagicOS 8.0 this month.

During a live event in China, Honor officially revealed MagicOS 8.0, the company’s new operating system based on Android 14. The new user interface features AI-powered improvements and claims to be the first to feature an “intent-based user interface (IUI)” (translated from Chinese).

In addition to the MagicOS 8.0 update, Honor also introduced the MagicLM, the company’s on-device large language model with seven billion parameters and optimized to run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC in partnership with Qualcomm.

What’s new with the update? MagicOS 8.0 allows users to organize tasks, search for pictures, collaborate on multiple screens, and manage every day. The update also offers new temperature control features, shake-to-block to get rid of unwanted pop-up ads, and support for eight transmission channels on MagicRing.

The latest version of MagicOS is rolling out to the company’s devices in China, with a plan to upgrade to Honor Magic 5 Ultimate Edition and other series later this month. Further updates are scheduled for February and March for other Honor devices in various series.
